Vacation Day Camp is a program for school age children run by Sanford Parks and Recreation and held at the Memorial Gym on Main St. This year’s December Vacation Camp runs weekdays from Thursday, December 23 through Friday, December 31. Campers are kept safe and busy with a variety of activities that will include: Legos, games, arts and crafts, sports, field trips, movies, and just plain fun. As the State Guidelines change periodically, they will follow state guidelines for mask wearing at that time. Staff to camper ratio is 1/6. Staff range in age 15-25 yrs old. Children must be potty trained. Staff is not trained for working with children with HIGH social, emotional, and behavioral needs, including children affected by autism spectrum disorders. The Sanford Mainers announced this week that Christine Jarowicz will be joining the Mainers organization for the 2022 season as the team’s Game-Day Operations and Volunteer Coordinator. Ms. Jarowicz is going into her senior year at Franklin Pierce University where she is studying management, with a major in business and minor in sports and recreation. She is also a member of FPU’s field hockey team. She will earn her degree in the spring of 2023, graduating Alpha Chi Honors.
Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery Association is seeking help with its goal of refurbishing the Committal Shelter, as the original design proves problematic in some of Maine’s unforgiving weather. Remodeling the structure will create a more usable space for families to comfortably hold services, protected from the elements in all seasons. The York County Vaccine Clinic at the Center for Shopping in South Sanford is now walk-in only. Vaccines are available to anyone age 5 and over. Pfizer, Moderna and J&J vaccines are available, as well as boosters. The clinic is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m.; Fridays from 3:00 to 7:00; and Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Call 324-1578 with any questions.
Sanford-Springvale Recreational Sports (formerly SSBA) is finalizing its basketball team roster placements. They have a record number of players participating this season. They are unable to accept any late registrations at this time for grades pre-k through grade 6, but still have some spots available for players in grades 7-12.
