Mark your calendars for the Springvale Library’s Summer Reading Party! To celebrate all the reading kids did this summer, earning food for the Animal Welfare Society in the process, Legacy Lane Farm will be at the Library with their petting zoo on Wednesday, August 18 at 2:30 p.m. Dwarf goats, sheep, ducks, chickens and rabbits will all be available for petting and feeding. Shaw’s Ridge Farm will be there with ice cream as well.

The Sanford Alumni Association is hosting an All-Class Reunion on Saturday, September 25, at Pilot’s Cove Café, 199 Airport Rd. This will be a great kick off to Sanford’s Homecoming week. All graduating classes are invited, and there is no admission fee or cover charge. There will be raffles starting at 6:00, music by DJ Keith James from 9:30-12:30, and a cash bar. Come early for dinner, stay late for music and fun!
Basketball update: Nasson Community Center will be offering fall travel basketball this year. If you have a player who would like to play some fall travel basketball, or you would like to coach a youth fall travel basketball team, please contact jdavie@nassoncommunitycenter.com. The Sanford-Springvale Basketball Association is planning a program for the winter months. Info on that will be coming soon.
The York County Sherriff’s Department will hold an open house at 1 Layman Way in Alfred, on Wednesday, August 18, for those interested in becoming a corrections officer or patrol deputy. The hours are 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., and 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
The American Legion Riders, Chapter 19, will be holding a yard sale at the Legion, 656 Main St., Springvale, on Saturday, August 21 from 9:00 to 3:00. The rain date is August 22. Spaces are available for rent in the fenced-in parking lot, at $10 each or two for $15. Contact Gloria at 651-9473 to reserve your spot. If you would like to donate items they will arrange for them to be picked up.
