On Friday April 8, the Sanford-Springvale Chamber of Commerce welcomed Maker’s Way Studio to town with a meet & greet and ribbon cutting. Maker’s Way offers supplies for making needlecrafts, and carries Jagger Spun, Natural Fiber Products yarns, bamboo, circular needles, crochet hooks, clothing patterns, contemporary fashion fabric, a great selection of locally crafted gifts and more. Owners Mellacent and Misha Thibault are also hosting classes, including beginner knitting on Thursday evenings. Sanford-Springvale Historical Society President Harland Eastman has donated his personal collection of more than 1,200 antique children’s books to Colby College in Waterville. His gift includes works by Jacob Abbott, his brother John S.C. Abbott, Elijah Kellogg, Sophie May (Rebecca Sophia Clarke) and her sister Penn Shirley (Sarah Jones Clarke), Kate Douglas Wiggin, and her sister Nora Archibald Smith. All of the authors have Maine connections, and many of the volumes are extremely rare. Read the full story here.
The Sanford ATV Club will hold its first meeting of the season on April 20 at 6:00 p.m., location to be determined. If you are a rider, please consider joining and supporting the Club.
The YMCA is taking registrations now for its Summer Camp programs. Camp Marland, held at Bunganut Lake in Lyman, is for kids entering 2nd through 7th grade. Transportation from the Y is provided. Camp Mini-Marland, held at the Y, is for kids entering Kindergarten and 1st grade. Your child can attend either three days or five days per week for up to ten weeks.
