First Responders: The Sanford Police Department this week welcomed Officer Brett Tishim to the force. Ofc. Tishim has an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice and proudly served in the United States Army. He is a certified officer and has worked for the Wells PD for the past eight years. Following several weeks of training, he will be assigned to a patrol shift. Also this week, Sanford Fire Department probationary member Larry Fournier (pictured below) obtained his shield from his shift (C). FF Fournier has worked incredibly hard over his probation and the shield is a symbol of his shift recognizing the dedication and welcoming him into the SFD family.
Absentee Ballots: Although absentee ballots were expected to arrive at City Hall on Thursday and be mailed to voters on Friday, City Clerk Sue Cote reports they did not arrive on schedule, so will not be mailed until Tuesday, due to the Monday holiday.
Westbrook Village: The City of Sanford/Village of Springvale would like to inform the public that beginning Sunday, October 9, 2022 @ 7:00 p.m., the City’s Contractors will begin cleaning and preparing the following Streets for paving immediately thereafter:
On-street parking on the above streets will be banned from 7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 9, until Friday, October 14, to facilitate this effort and expedite the work of the contractors. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact the Department of Public Works at (207) 324-9135.
Candidates Night: Don’t miss Candidates Night on Wednesday, October 12 at 6:00 p.m. It will be held live in Council Chambers, on the third floor of City Hall, and will be livestreamed and recorded by WSSR-TV for later viewing. Candidates for City Council, School Committee and the three State Representative seats will participate. Shawn Sullivan and Tammy Wells will be the hosts.
Spartans Travel Basketball: Tryouts for the Sanford Spartan Travel Basketball program will be held on Wednesday, October 12th and Thursday, October 13th at Memorial Gym.
4th grade boys and girls are welcome to try out for the 5th grade teams. The players only need to attend tryouts one of the nights, but are more than welcome to come to both. Please pre-register if you haven’t yet by emailing sanfordspartansyouthbasketball@gmail.com with child’s name, grade and best email address. There is no fee to register or tryout.
