From a press release
Ruts have been churned into a recently upgraded trailhead parking lot off Stanley Road in Springvale, causing an estimated $1,200 damage.
The parking lot is the primary access point to the popular Indian’s Last Leap on the Mousam Way Trail. The improvements to the parking lot were a collaboration between the Trails Committee and Central Maine Power Company, which recently rebuilt a substation.
Although damaged, the parking lot is still accessible for trail users, albeit with caution due to the ruts. Anyone with any information regarding the identity of the responsible party or the timing of this incident is urged to contact the Sanford Police Department. The Sanford Trails Committee is committed to seeking funding and resources to rectify the damage.
Members of the Trails Committee called the ruts a “senseless, malicious act.” They found the damage to be disheartening, considering the collaborative effort that had culminated in the completion of this project merely a few weeks ago.
