Julia Gagnon, Maine’s “American Idol” Top 7 finalist, is bringing her powerhouse voice to the Sanford Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Jan. 18, with a spotlight series concert.
Gagnon, who grew up in an adoptive family in Cumberland, was born in Guatemala and was later encouraged by her birth mother to use her gift of singing in a big way. In the summer of 2023, she won first place in “Central Maine Idol,” which led her to audition for “American Idol.” Gagnon, a student at the University of Southern Maine, transitioned from working in retail to becoming an aspiring singer, competing on season 22 of the popular show.
For her “Here in Maine” homecoming tour last summer, she performed all over the state, including a reunion in Bangor with singer Jason Mraz, who had performed a duet with her on “American Idol.” She and her fiancé, Nate Haven, have been writing songs and performing together for years.
Brett Williams, artistic and managing director of SPAC, worked to bring Gagnon to Sanford after being impressed with her determination and skill during her performances. “Julia’s journey is a testament to her passion for music and her commitment to excellence,” he said. “Her powerful voice, polished artistry, and ability to connect with audiences reflect years of dedication and hard work.”
Tickets for the show are available online at sanfordpac.org.
