Downtown Sanford will be hopping next Friday night, July 26, with the sounds of Doo-wop, the aroma of barbecue and the flash of chrome.
More than 100 vintage cars are expected to line Main Street for Cruising with Friends, a car show organized by Friends of Downtown. Main Street between Washington Street and Winter Street will be closed to car traffic from 4 to 8 pm. A food court will be set up at Main Street Marketplace.
“When Sanford Main Street closes down and we have amazing cars parked in the beautiful summer sun, our community shows up,” said Kim Stewart, lead organizer for Friends of Downtown. “Young, old and in-between show up to see all the paint, the chrome, the engines and designs of decades gone by.”
Food will be provided by Addy’s food truck, Kona Ice, Richie’s Jerk BBQ, Terra Firma Farm food truck and Above and Beyond Catering. Above and Beyond will also provide alcoholic drinks in its Gin Tin.
Car registration starts at 4 pm. Enter Main Street from Washington Street only. The car entrance fee is $20 and includes a $5 food coupon. Trophy presentations will be made at 7:30.
“Last year was amazing,” said Stewart. “We had such a great variety of cars. The judges really had a hard time picking just one to award a trophy to.”
The rain date is August 2.
