The race for state representative for District 141 between incumbent Republican Lucas Lanigan and Democratic challenger Patty Kidder has reportedly ended in a tie, a spokesperson for the Maine Secretary of State’s office said Thursday. While Kidder won the Sanford/Springvale part of the district by a healthy margin, Lanigan’s vote count matched hers once the returns for Shapleigh and Newfield and the overseas and military votes were counted. A recount will be scheduled once either of the candidates requests it. The recount would be conducted in Augusta with representatives for both candidates present. If the recount still shows a tie vote, a special election will be held to determine the winner.

In District 142, Democrat Anne-Marie Mastraccio retained her seat with 52% of the vote. Republican challenger Amy Bell received 48%. District 142 includes much of downtown Sanford and the east side

Republican Ann Fredericks won re-election to the District 143 seat with 56% of the vote against Democrat Katie Manende Hall, who got 44%. District 143 is comprised mostly of south Sanford.

In the race for State Senate District 33, Republican incumbent Matt Harrington won a decisive victory over his Democratic challenger, newcomer Dan Lauzon. Harrington got 60% of the votes cast, with Lauzon bringing in 40%. In addition to Sanford/Springvale, District 33 includes the towns of Alfred, Lebanon and Waterboro.
