The Maine Secretary of State’s Office is reminding residents that any registered voter may cast an absentee ballot instead of voting in person on Election Day, and that they don’t need a reason to do so. Ballots can be requested online.
Printed ballots will be sent to municipal clerks at least 30 days before the Nov. 5 election. Absentee ballots can be mailed to voters and must be returned to the city clerk by 8 pm on Election Day. Voters can also go to the clerk’s office to vote without filling out an application.
State election law now provides that a voter who will be at least 65 by the next election, or who self-identifies as having a disability, may apply for ongoing absentee voter status. Otherwise, a request for early voting must be made for each election
To request an absentee ballot for the Nov. 5 election or to check the status of your absentee ballot, go to https://apps.web.maine.gov/cgi-bin/online/AbsenteeBallot/index.pl
