Helping Hands: December 11

Sanford Middle School students are having a fun food drive competition, and are getting creative with the collection bins! If you have a middle school student or staff member in the family, or know one, please consider making a donation by December 18.

Through Sunday, December 13, Subway locations in Sanford and Springvale will donate to the Sanford-Springvale YMCA for each sub purchased ($1 for a 12″ and 50 cents for a 6″).

York County Community Action has been selected by Sanford Hannaford as the benefitting non-profit in the Community Bag Program. This program is designed to make it easy for shoppers to give back to their local communities while supporting the environment. For the month of December, YCCAC will receive a $1 donation from each purchase of the $2.50 reusable Community Bag at the Hannaford store located at 800 Main Street in Sanford.

With an outpouring of community support, York County Shelter Programs was able to put together over 900 Thanksgiving meal boxes for families of all sizes. Now they are looking ahead to making meal boxes for the Christmas holiday. They are looking for donations of hams, and non-perishable food items that would accompany the meal, such as canned vegetables and desserts. If you can help with a ham or food donation, please contact Food Pantry Coordinator Michael Ouellette, at 391-3125 or mikeo@ycspi.org. You can also contact Food Service Director Scott Davis at 502-0520, or scottd@ycspi.org. If you would like to donate a gift card or make a cash donation, contact our Executive Director Megan Gean-Gendron, at 324-1137 or megang@ycspi.org to make arrangements. If you are in need of a holiday meal, you can pick up a box at YCSP’s food pantry, at 5 Swetts Bridge Road in Alfred, on Monday, Dec. 21 and Tuesday, Dec. 22, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., both days.
