Selfies with Sanford Scarecrows is back to kick off the spooky season! If your business or organization, would like to participate, register at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfV4r7-bbgq45dux3b2BUxf-xZRIVMxnxSl9Q_8iULvWzBl5Q/viewform by October 15 and have your scarecrow up on display by October 21. Last years entries were phenomenal! The Friends of Downtown will be publishing a map with all the locations for the public to visit and take selfies to enter in the prize drawing.
Does your pet like to dress up? Enter them in the Frannie’s Furry Friends Costume Contest! Submit an entry from October 21-30 by posting a picture of your pet on Instagram or Facebook, tagging Frannie’s Mini Donuts and using the hashtag #franniesfurryfriends in the post. You can post on your own page or story or in this event thread. Their staff will be picking their top three favorite costumes to win free 32 packs and a treat bag for the furry costume wearer.
The Paranormal Five’s 3rd Annual Halloween Yard Decorating Contest is on now! This year it is free to enter and open to Sanford/Springvale residents only. Judges will select three winners who will receive a trick or treat basket filled with goodies! The Paranormal Five and some other local paranormal investigators will do the judging October 23-26, and the winners will be announced October 29. They are looking for scary and creative entries! Get creative for Marc Motors’ 2nd Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest. Bring your already carved pumpkins in between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm on October 25-27. Please include your name and phone number on the back of the pumpkin. Pumpkins will be displayed in both of their showrooms, and customers and employees will vote for their favorites. At noon on the 28th, the votes will be tallied and winners announced. The child’s prize is a $50 gift card to Smitty’s; the adult prize is $250 cash.
The Goodall Library will host a special Spooky Lego Contest Wednesday, October 26 from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. Build a spooky creation to put on display. Staff will vote on the top 3 designs and those builders will get a prize! Suggested for ages 5-12, no sign-ups necessary.
Looking for an alternative to Halloween? Mercy Chapel’s Harvest Party is Saturday, October 22, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Games, activities, prizes, fellowship and fun. Rain date October 29.
Witches on Water: Calling all the wonderful witches of Sanford (and the wizards too) – grab your paddle boards and kayaks and meet on Number One Pond Sunday, October 23 from 3:00 – 4:00 pm in your best witches costume for some fun easy floating. Note that this event isn’t an organized or sponsored event in any way, so paddle at your own risk.
On Thursday, October 27, there will be trick or treating at Margaret Chase Smith School from 5:00 to 7:30 pm for all MCS and Pride students, staff and families. The same evening, Carl J. Lamb School will have trick or treating from 5:30 to 6:30 for all CJL families.
Springvale Library’s Halloween Story Time is scheduled for Friday, October 28 at 10:00 am. Dress up in your costume and parade around the library with Miss Sheila! Special stories and a chance to trick or treat the librarians……what do you think Miss Sheila will be this year?
Goodall Library’s annual Trick or Treat event will take place at the Library on October 28 between 2:00 and 4:00 pm. Kids can come in costume and trick or treat for candy around the library, then stop in to the Community Room to paint their very own Halloween ornament. All ages are welcome!
The Sanford-Springvale YMCA will host its annual Spooky Sprint 5K family fun run/walk on Saturday, October 29. Pull out your favorite costume and join us for Sanford’s favorite costumed fun run! Calling all trick or treaters for the third annual Flight or Fright airport trick or treat event at the Sanford Seacoast Regional Airport, 199 Airport Road. This event will be held Saturday October 29 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, rain date Sunday the 30th. Kids in costumes walk from airplane to airplane as the pilots hand out candy. They are planning on a great event showcasing local pilots and their wide variety of aircraft and rotorcraft: everything from tail draggers to jets to helicopters, biplanes to canards to amphibious turbo props and more! This event is free to the public. Special thanks to Pilots Cove Café, Southern Maine Aviation, several local businesses and pilots for donating many pounds of candy again this year.
Trunk or Treat at Curtis Lake Church on Saturday, October 29 from 5:00 to 7:30 pm. The parking lot will be transformed into a candy lover’s dream! There will be lots of decorated trunks, hot cocoa and popcorn and… CANDY. Lots and lots of CANDY!!
On Halloween Night, October 31, check out Trunk or Treat from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Mikini Embroidery and Sports Apparel, 1298 Main St. They are seeking volunteers to decorate vehicles and pass out candy. Give them a call at 207-459-1200 if you can help.
Smitty’s will host a Stranger Things 21+ Halloween Party on Friday, October 28 from 8:30 pm to 12:30 am. Doors open at 8:00. There will be a costume contest, 80s + hit music by DJ Ryan Deelon, two-hours of unlimited arcade fun, a spooky drink menu, $6 bowling and $5 Hyperdeck VR. Tickets are $15 per person, $25 per couple, and $10 for Stein Society members.
Saturday, October 29, Crown Jewels will have a special Halloween Drag Night at the Nasson Little Theatre. Come dressed up as there will be a costume contest!
