Second and third graders put on a Spring Concert before April vacation.
CJL students had an Earth Day presentation last month by Forest Nohr and Scott Guzman.
Teachers got to nominate Most Improved Students for the year. Students were awarded a certificate from Slugger, the mascot of the Portland Sea Dogs, and they received a Sea Dog game ticket for next month.
The school celebrated Mr. Bisson on Assistant Principal day. Students created banners and cards and got to celebrate him throughout the day.
Mrs. Collop’s second grade class has been working hard in math. They have been focusing on how to measure various objects around the class. Students even got to measure their height and arm span. The class then got to go outside and use an 100’ measuring tape to put measuring into perspective on our field.
Grade 3 Reading Celebration: In the most recent reading unit, 3rd graders have been reading Because of Winn Dixie. Throughout the story, students have learned to analyze author’s craft and identify character development using a story mountain. On Friday, we had a celebration to mark the end of our reading unit, this included watching the movie, eating littmus lozenges, egg salad sandwiches, and having dump punch. We also wrote out our personal mistakes and hung them up on our 3rd grade mistake tree located in the 3/4 hallway.
After passing the last of his five HiSET tests, a student shared that “It took me almost seven years but I did it!” In addition to offering the official HiSET exams, we are offering more credit-bearing courses to help students earn their High School Diploma. Adult education not only changes the lives of our students, it changes the lives of our student’s families.
