This week, the Sanford Performing Arts Center announced a series of four “Free For All” performances. As the title suggests, the shows will be available to watch for FREE from the comfort of your home via live video stream. The series is sponsored by Sanford’s “Wear a Mask and Keep Your Six” public health campaign.
The “Free For All” performances will be presented over four consecutive weekends from October 24 – November 14. The homegrown series features musicians and artists from Maine, whose industry has been impacted the most by the pandemic and the shutdown of live performance venues. All performances will be about an hour long with no intermission.
Each show will have its own unique link to view it on YouTube live. There is no cost to watch these video streams. If you have YouTube on your TV, you can also go directly to WSSR-TV’s YouTube Channel to watch.
On October 24 at 8:00 p.m., the series kicks off with “Piano Men: The Music of Elton and Billy.” This concert combines a four-piece pop group featuring Joe Boucher on piano and vocals playing with a string orchestra section with arrangements by Christopher Eastburn. This is the same team that arranged and performed “Imagine: The Beatles Solo Years” for a sold-out crowd at the SPAC in November 2019. The music of “Piano Men” is a veritable hit parade alternating songs between the two composers. Use this link to watch: https://youtu.be/-fxEhUAikE8.
On Friday, October 30, Spose – rapper and Maine’s best-selling musical artist – takes the stage with his band, The Humans, for an unforgettable show on the eve of Halloween. The Humans are a who’s who of Maine’s foremost rock musicians, including Rustic Overtones’ Dave Gutter and Jon Roods, plus Kyle Gervais and Derek Gierhan.
Sanford’s own stand-up comedy star, Steve Caouette, returns to the SPAC on November 7. In a normal year, Steve would be traveling around the world as one of the cruise industry’s most popular comedy headliners. Also featuring comedian Robbie Printz.
The series will wrap up November 14 with “A Night on Broadway” featuring Susie Pepper, a former Miss Maine (2009) and featured soloist for the PSO’s “Magic of Christmas.” She will deliver an evening of popular Broadway hits, backed by Mixology, one of Vacationland’s most sought-after professional live event bands.
