Fire Log: June 27-July 10

Fires: On June 28, Sanford Fire Department provided mutual assistance to the Rochester FD with a structure fire. On July 6, Engine 2 responded to a rubbish fire on Montreal St.

Other incidents: Engine 4 was called to an arcing power line on Country Club Rd. #1 on June 28. On June 30, firefighters answered a call for a tree that had fallen onto a house on Bateman St. The following day, Engine 1 responded to a lightning strike on Spring Hill Dr. The strike actually occurred the previous day when no one was home. There were signs of damage but no fire concerns.

EMS: During this two-week period, there were 106 calls for emergency medical services. Additionally, the Department responded to two motor vehicle accidents with injuries, and five without injuries. Assistance was provided to invalids on ten occasions, and once to a person in distress. On one occasion, firefighters were called to assist a person to walk from Sanford Urgent Care to the Emergency Room across the parking lot.

Public service: There was one call for a suspected natural gas or propane leak. No leak was found and it was believed the odor was from an animal. Another call was for a water or steam leak. The Department also assisted a resident with a mechanical issue in his home. There was one call for burning which was authorized, and eight reports of smoke or smoke odor.

Alarms: There were five smoke detector activations due to malfunction, two fire alarm system malfunctions and a carbon monoxide detector activation due to a malfunction. There were also four unintentional smoke detector activations, an unintentional sprinkler activation and an unintentional alarm system activation.

Three calls were dispatched and cancelled en route; another four calls resulted in no incident found upon arrival.
