In this five-week course along with a showcase on May 17th, students, ages 13-18, will tap into their funny bone to learn the tenents of improv comedy. Through interactive exercises and games, each participant will learn how to best utilize their authentic selves to create one-of-a-kind scenes that make audiences howl with laughter – all without a script. From learning the basics of “Yes, And”, to more refined skills around reading a scene, using silence, and knowing when to pivot into seriousness, every student will get plenty of stage time and productive feedback inside of a safe learning environment. Plus, there will be a live showcase at the end of the session where the students will perform alongside veteran improvisers from the local troupe Stranger than Fiction! This class is for teens ages 13-18 only. Each class is on Thursday from 6-7:30pm for 5 weeks (April 18 &25, May 2, 9, 16) with a performance on Friday, May 17th.Instructor Tyler Paterson is a graduate of Second City Chicago, a frequent musical sit-in with Stranger than Fiction, and auditioned for Saturday Night Live in 2013. He is the founder of the Ocean Park Comedy Camp for Kids, and can usually be found asking his dog, “What are you chewing? What’s in your mouth? Where did you get that?!
