Police are investigating what led to a shooting in downtown Sanford just as the Holly Daze parade was about to start on Friday afternoon. According to a department press release, officers were called to the parking lot of the new T-Mobile store at the corner of Main and Lebanon streets a little before 4 pm on Dec. 1, 2023. Witnesses said a person was in the intersection, in and out of the roadway, yelling at vehicles and carrying a knife. The individual approached Addy’s food truck, which was parked in the lot. There was a confrontation between the owner of the truck and the person with the knife, who subsequently was shot. The shooter is cooperating with detectives as they gather evidence and conduct interviews. The injured individual was listed in serious condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland as of Saturday afternoon.
Sanford Police are looking for witnesses and video from the shooting. If you were a motorist or a pedestrian in the area and witnessed the altercation (occurring at approximately 3:50 pm), please contact Detective Erik Rae, at 207 324-9170 ext. 290.
