After more than a year of quarantines, lock downs and social distancing, Sanford High School is bringing Marching Music Shows back!
Sanford High School Band Director Erica Scarano, Marching Percussion Director Hailey Francoeur, Color Guard Director Madeline Epperson and students from grades 9 through 12 have prepared two unique performances which will be presented to a live audience in the Sanford High School Competition Gymnasium on Saturday, May 22 at 1:00 p.m. The show will also be streamed live on WSSR-TV.
The students began in January by having meetings and rehearsals via Zoom video conferences. Can you imagine practicing music or dance over Zoom? Well, these kids did it, and when Spring came around, they began to rehearse in person. It has been a great challenge as many of them have never done this type of performing before. Things were also complicated when students had to stay home for weeks at a time to quarantine. Nevertheless, they have toughed it out and worked incredibly hard to learn new skills, develop themselves physically, mentally and musically to bring their shows to life. Their staff is enormously proud of all of them.
The percussion show is called “Déjà vu” and features students marching with snare, tenor and bass drums while others perform on stationary percussion such as drum set, marimbas, vibraphones, xylophones, etc.
The color guard show is called “Rule!” and showcases the students performing a variety of movement styles and equipment such as flags, sabers, etc.
All of these events are meant to build and develop skills that will carry over to next Fall, when the full Sanford High School Marching Band and Guard are expected to return.
