On Saturday, November 21, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Cub Scouts and alumni of Pack 355 held a dual event to help their community. Sunshine and warm weather greeted the Scouts as alumni of the Pack, Michael and Vincenzo, directed a drive-through food drive below the Gowen Park Gazebo. They were able to collect over 125 boxes of macaroni and cheese for the Sanford Backpack Program, and over 200 other non-perishable items which were donated to the Saint Thérèse Food Closet.
Across the way, the Cub Scouts donned their neon green Pack shirts, orange safety vests, masks, and gloves, and after a quick Covid check-in, they received a trash bag and safety instructions. They set off as individual family groups to clean the park and trail area. There were 15 bags of trash collected, a rug, 2 car tires, a folding chair, tent and some large pieces of metal as well. Service projects, such as these, are integral for the purposes of Cub Scouting. Character development, good citizenship, and friendly service are just some of the points covered on days like this.
If you know a child in kindergarten through 5th grade who would like to join the adventure of Cub Scouting, Pack 355 is accepting applications for boys and girls. Email: SanfordCubScoutPack355@gmail.com or text 651-2142 for more info.
