Monday, February 13

School Committee Budget Workshop, 4:00-6:00 pm, City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main St. This is an in-person meeting, no Zoom will be available. School Committee workshops are open to the public. This workshop will be available on Channel 26 and live-streamed on Town Hall Streams and YouTube. It will be recorded and available for later viewing. The agenda includes review of ESSER positions and finalization of the School Department budget.

Tuesday, February 14

Municipal Operations and Property Subcommittee, 8:30 am via Zoom. The agenda includes a temporary land lease with Northern Maine Community College at the Airport, presentation on conceptual landscape redesign of the Route 109/Route 4 roundabout, and review of a proposed Memorandum of Agreement with the Arts Collaborative of Sanford.

Site Plan Review Committee, 9:00 am, Council Chambers at City Hall, 919 Main St., and via Zoom. The agenda includes a request for a zone change from Single Family Residential to Urban for 27 Hanson Ridge Rd. to address parking and access issues.

Public Safety Subcommittee, 11:00 am via Zoom. The agenda includes a request for a new streetlight and pole at the intersection of Lebanon and Joffre Streets, and Police Department updates.

Zoning Subcommittee, 1:00 pm via Zoom. The agenda includes discussion of options for regulating short-term rentals.

Solid Waste Subcommittee, 2:00 pm via Zoom. The agenda includes an update on the Garbage to Garden curbside composting program; update on waste, recycling and waste diversion initiatives; and discussion of unit prices at the Transfer Station.

Cook The Book, 5:30 pm, Springvale Public Library, 443 Main St. This month’s selection is Food Between Friends by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Julie Tanous. Sign up at the Library to make and share a recipe from the book.

Wednesday, February 15

Land Bank Commission, 8:45 am via Zoom. The agenda includes discussion of Land Bank properties/process, and property maintenance and housing concerns.

Friends of Downtown, 4:30 pm, location TBA (usually Frannie’s Mini Donuts).

York County Commissioners, 5:00 pm, 149 Jordan Springs Rd., Alfred, and via Zoom. The agenda includes an overview of the new County website, an update on ARPA-funded projects, and other items.

SRTC Admissions Open House, 6:00-7:30 pm, 100 Alumni Blvd. Prospective students and their families are invited to tour the school, speak to instructors and learn more about the programs offered.

Planning Board, 6:30 pm, City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main St., and via Zoom. The agenda includes the application for a zoning change at 27 Hanson Ridge Rd., the Planning Director’s Report and other items.

Thursday, February 16

Red Cross Blood Drive, noon – 5:00 pm, Nasson Community Center, 457 Main St.

Community Game Day, 2:00-4:00 pm, Life Works, 102 Pleasant St. Join the Life Works crew for fun and games including board games, cards, video games and bingo. No RSVP needed, call 207-324-7955 x116 with any questions.

3rd Annual Community Food Distribution, 3:00-6:00 pm or until food is gone, Sanford High School, 100 Alumni Blvd. All are welcome. Sponsored by the Sanford Backpack Program, Tom’s of Maine, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the Good Shepherd Food Bank. Use Route 4 entrance only, no early birds please.

Third Thursday Free Supper, 5:30-6:30 pm, North Parish Church, 893 Main St. The menu includes beans and hotdogs, coleslaw and gingerbread. All are welcome.

Friday, February 17

AWS Presents Furry Tales Story Time, 11:00 am, Goodall Library, 952 Main St. The Animal Welfare Society will visit with a song, a story, and an educational live animal experience. Ages 3 and up.

Saturday, February 18

Winterfest Ice Fishing Derby, 7:30 am to 11:30, Number One Pond. For kids age 15 and under. Join Sanford Parks and Rec along with Doc from the Department of Conservation, the Sanford High School Sportsman’s Club and the Carl J. Lamb PTA for a morning of ice fishing. No fee to sign up. Prizes will be awarded. Traps and bait available on a first come, first served basis. Parents, please come and support your kids at this event.

3rd Annual Al St. Laurent Bowling Tournament, 8:30 – noon, Smitty’s GameLAB, 1327 Main St. Bowling teams are full but please consider attending as a spectator as this fundraiser benefits autism awareness. Smitty’s Bar and Kitchen will be open. There will be toasts to Al, raffles and prizes.

Corner Cupboard, 10:00 am to noon, Sanford Unitarian Universalist Church, 5 Lebanon St. Non-food essential item pantry offering personal care products, paper goods, cleaning supplies, household items and baby needs. All are welcome.

Life of Winter: An Art Exhibition, 4:00-9:00 pm, Nasson Little Theatre. View (and maybe purchase) works by local artists as you enjoy light refreshments, cocktails and music. A free event hosted by the Arts Collaborative of Sanford. The art works exhibited will have mature themes.

Sunday, February 19

13th Annual Square Pond Ice Fishing Derby, 6:00 am – 3:00 pm. Fundraiser hosted by the Sanford Elks Maine Children’ Cancer Program. Registration $20 for adults, $10 for kids age 15 and under. No fishing license required. Cash prizes for adults, trophies and gift cards for the kids. Register at https://fundraising.mmc.org/sanfordelksfishingderby2023.
