Join the Sanford-Springvale Rotary Club and “come in from the cold” on Tuesday evening, January 14 during the fourth annual January Thaw event to raise funds to benefit the unhoused in our community. This will take place at MEE D THAI Restaurant, 886 Main Street, located in the Midtown Marketplace in Sanford from 5:30 until 8:00 pm. Tickets are $40 per person which includes a complimentary sampling of food and one free signature drink. People are asked to bring at least one warm clothing item as well.
Over the last three years, Rotary has been able to provide the Sanford Police Department, through the Sanford Housing Authority, with funds totaling more than $30,000. These funds, along with great quantities of mittens, gloves, hats, coats, jackets and warm socks have helped meet the immediate needs of Sanford people living outside in the middle of winter.
According to the recent HUD Annual Homeless Assessment report, during 2024, homelessness in our nation has increased by 18%. During the event, Sanford officials will give an update on our community’s situation and their work to help those who find themselves unhoused.
EXIT Key Real Estate is a primary sponsor of this event along with corporate sponsorship through EXIT Realty Corp. International, which will match the first $2,000 raised. The Sanford community’s support of this event has been very strong over the past three years, so our goal for the year is to raise $15,000.
Tickets may be purchased online from the Sanford-Springvale Rotary Club website. Sponsorship information is available by contacting Rotarian Elias Thomas directly by email or at 207-636-2222.
