School Committee Meeting Summary: February 22, 2021

School Committee Member Jonathan Mapes apologized for comments he made at the February 8 meeting with regard to getting kids back in school more days per week. “My comment was unacceptable, for that I offer a genuine apology,” he said. Kindergarten & Pre-K Registration

Sanford’s Got Moves!

Sanford’s Got Talent is going virtual for 2021. From February 8 through February 26, the Sanford Middle School Jobs for Maine Graduates (JMG) program is accepting one-minute videos from SMS students (four day, hybrid and remote) and staff showing off their best dance moves. You can recreate your favorite Tik Tok dance, or combine a talent with a dance. All accepted videos will be combined into a montage which will air on YouTube in early March. The top three vote…

School Notes

On Thursday night a small fire in the heating system at Margaret Chase Smith School resulted in school being cancelled on Friday. A built-in safety feature in the heating system shut off the flow of propane, putting the fire out quickly. The system has since been repaired. The Sanford School Department has an online survey for parents/guardians of students who are on the hybrid learning plan (currently attending school two days a week). The five members of the Sanford School Committee have directed Superintendent of Schools Matt Nelson to figure out how to have students in schools more days per week.
