Sanford PD uses Grants to Shift its Focus to Community Policing

In Three Years, Sanford Police Department’s Mental Health Unit Has Received $330,000 From Outside Sources Press Release On July 1, 2022, the Sanford Police Department will receive a $125,000 COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services) grant. The grant will be used to put a second officer in the department’s Mental Health Unit (MHU). Monday, May 16: A 43-year-old Lyman resident was taken into custody on Cheney St. in Springvale, on a warrant. Tuesday, May 17: A warrant being served on Main St. led to a 33-year-old Sanford resident being arrested for failure to appear in court on a criminal summons. Fire Department Log: May 16-31, 2022

Fires There were three fires in Sanford in the second half of May. In each case, all units and mutual aid responded. On the 22nd, an early morning fire on Kimball St. started when leaves were ignited by a short from an extension cord.
