A proposed change to Sanford's zoning ordinance adds a new Land Use category for Mental Health Practitioners. A Mental Health Practitioner is defined as one which provides diagnosis and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders and/or the diagnosis and treatment of individual or group social dysfunction brought about by such causes as mental illness, alcohol and substance abuse, physical and emotional trauma, or stress. Downtown Apartment Buildings Given Preliminary Approval

At its December 16 meeting, the Planning Board gave preliminary approval to two new apartment buildings to be constructed in downtown Sanford. The developer, TPD Construction Co., is currently building similar apartments in South Sanford near the roundabout. At its December 15 meeting, the Site Plan Review Committee approved an application by New England Battery Storage, LLC, to build a battery energy storage system (BESS) that will interconnect to the Central Maine Power (CMP) distribution circuit. A proposal to turn the building located at 62 High Street, former site of Sanford Christian Academy, into 9 rental apartments was reviewed last week by the Site Plan Review Committee and the Planning Board.
