12-year-old Chace Fromwiller of Springvale was honored as an Anthem Hero at Hadlock Field in Portland for the courage he has displayed battling brain cancer at a young age. The ceremony took place prior to the June 10 Portland Sea Dogs game. Civil War Veteran Stephen Farnham's new gravestone was dedicated at the Farnham-Dorr Cemetery in South Sanford earlier today. The flag was carried by Civil War reenactor Leo DeJune, and folded by Bruce Knight and Jessica Violette of Rolling Thunder. Kathy Wainwright, Mr. Farnham's great-grand niece, unveiled the new stone. Civil War Veteran’s New Stone to be Dedicated Sunday

Civil War veteran Stephen Farnham, who is buried in the Farnham-Dorr Cemetery adjacent to the new Convenient MD by the South Sanford roundabout, has a new headstone thanks to the efforts of local residents who wanted to see him properly memorialized. Stephen Farnham was born in South Berwick in 1841. The 1850 census finds him living in Wells with his parents, Ralph (a laborer) and Phebe, and older siblings. Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale had some special visitors on Friday. Preston Sharp of California (pictured below) has been traveling around the country to honor the service of veterans in each state and to speak their names out loud, to keep their memories alive.
