Sanford Maine Stage is having an open casting call June 17 and 18 for its production of Shakespeare From the Park: Romeo and Juliet. If you'd like to try out, arrive at Gowen Park at 5:45 p.m. either day and sign in. Bring a blanket, beach towel or lawn chair with you, and dress comfortably. News Notes: June 3

The Sanford Backpack Program has a full summer of food distributions planned! Each Thursday from June 10 through September 2, they will be at one of the apartment complexes in town, either Meadow Creek, Timber Ridge or Eastside Acres. They will also be at Breary Farms and the Willard School every Thursday. These events are open to all Sanford/Springvale residents, no signup required and no questions asked. Holiday closings: City Hall, all other City offices and both Libraries will be closed on Monday for the Memorial Day holiday. Trash and recycling pickup will be as usual. The transfer station will be closed on Tuesday. At Southern Maine Health Care, primary offices, labs and radiology will be closed on Monday. The Walk-In Care Center will be open. The Shoreline Explorer trolleys, with service from York to Kennebunk, will begin running for the summer season on June 26. Take the Orange Line from the School St. parking lot in Sanford and explore the coast! The Shoreline Explorer will be fare-free all summer. Get more information at http://www.shorelineexplorer.com/.
