Monday, January 17 is Martin Luther King Day. Schools, City offices and both libraries will be closed. Trash and recycling will be picked up as usual. The St. Thomas Knights of Columbus Council #13861 are first out of the gate with a donation to Waban's 2022 Telethon this week. Pictured above, Grand Knight Dennis Breton and District Deputy Ray Sargent presented a check for $1,800 to Waban's Executive Director Jennifer Putnam and Deputy Director Gervaise Flynn. This past week, the Sanford Police Department congratulated two of its longtime employees on their retirements. Officer Matt Johns served 23 years with the Department as a patrol officer and detective. Officer Chris Cyr also served as a patrol officer and detective during his 31 years on the Sanford force, and was one of the first bicycle officers as well. Sanford Recreation’s Spartan Travel Boys 7th grade team fared well at the 23rd Annual Holiday Hoops Tournament this past weekend, winning the Championship. Coaches Cory Adams and Adam Cote were proud of the effort and determination by the boys on the team. Members of the team included: Bryce Adams, AJ Cote, Max Cote, Tyler Do, Jakobe Duprey, Liam Johnson, Noah Johnson, Braden Mowry, Michael Segien, and Mason Wayne. On Friday and Saturday, December 17 and 18, Springvale Toys for Tots held its 14th distribution event and the parents of (approximately) 1400 children came to choose gifts/toys for their children. This year Toys for Tots was fortunate to have the use of Curtis Lake Church's multi-purpose room where the gifts were displayed for choosing and parents were escorted by elves, who were all members of the community.
