New Covid Relief Targets Small Businesses Previously Left Out

Press Release Small businesses that were left out of earlier Covid relief programs are urged to apply for a new round of funding specifically targeted to previously unhelped businesses. The program is offered through the Southern Maine Regional Planning Commission. Friends of Downtown is planning to hold an informational session about the program sometime during the week of November 13. The deadline for applying is December 7, 2023. Community Paramedicine Program Will Help Seniors, Homebound & Unhoused

By Zendelle Bouchard At its meeting on October 3, 2023, the Sanford City Council voted to enter into a service contract with the Maine Department of Public Safety for the creation of a Community Paramedicine Program within the Sanford Fire Department. The City has received a $100,000 grant to begin funding the program, which will start with one full-time Community Paramedic providing mobile and in-home care through referrals from a physician. Water District Shuts Down Well Due to PFAS Contamination

Press Release The Sanford Water District has discontinued using one of its six active groundwater sources of supply after recent test samples exceeded the Maine drinking water limit for perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). “The excessive rain we’ve had over the summer appears to possibly have affected some of our groundwater, increasing the exposure level to these contaminants,” said David Parent, superintendent of the water district.
