Fire Department Log: August 8-14

Fires On Monday, August 9, Sanford firefighters responded to a car fire on Wilson St. and found smoldering engine components. There were no injuries or other damage. Emergency Medical Services There were 47 calls for EMS services. Emergency personnel provided first aid for 12 individuals, basic life support for 23 and advanced life support for 13 (some patients had first aid plus life support). 35 were transported to the hospital. Council Approves Hiring 2 New Firefighters

The Sanford City Council met on August 17, and in a unanimous vote, approved amending the 2021-2022 Municipal Budget to include two new Firefighter/EMS positions. The funding of these positions was debated at length in budget discussions earlier this year. While they were not approved at that time, a majority of the Council said they would be favorable to adding the positions if a means could be found for doing so without impacting this year’s tax bills. What is the Difference Between an EMT and a Paramedic?

All of the Sanford Fire Department's firefighters are also Emergency Medical Technicians. But some have additional training that qualify them as paramedics. There were no fires this week. Other incidents: On Sunday, July 18, a faulty electrical appliance on Shawmut Ave. caused excessive heat and scorching, but fortunately, it did not ignite. Fires: On July 13, Engine 5 responded to an unattended brush fire on Lefrancois Ln. The blaze covered about 100 square feet and was quickly brought under control.
