International Woolen Could Get Additional Cleanup Funds

Sanford could be in line for additional federal funds for cleaning up the International Woolen mill site, resulting from a recent grant announcement from the Environmental Protection Agency.  The EPA awarded $3 million to Southern Maine Regional Planning and Development Commission, which runs a revolving loan program available to municipalities for assessing and cleaning up polluted industrial sites. City and School Department seek input

New bus service to start July 1

Sanford will soon get a new bus service connecting to Kennebunk and Biddeford. Biddeford Saco Old Orchard Beach Transit plans three daily runs, including weekends, starting July 1. Pick up is at School Street with the bus traveling down Route 99 to Route 1, Kennebunk, then to downtown Biddeford. The service is made possible through a partnership between the transit service and Kennebunk-Kennebunkport-Arundel Chamber of Commerce and a grant from Maine Department of Transportation Workforce Transportation Grant Program. click here…

School Budget Approved   A small cohort of voters approved a $61 million school budget Tuesday by an 80-20 percent margin, according to Sue H. Cote, City Clerk and Registrar of Voters. The turnout of 488 voters represented just 3 percent of the registered voters in the city, according to Ms. Cote. Dental Education Loans  The state’s dental education loan program will expand to include a range of dental practitioners, thanks to a recent law change sponsored by State Rep. Anne-Marie Mastraccio (D-Sanford).   Prior to the passage of LD 1256, the Maine Dental Education Loan Program was only available to dentists practicing in underserved communities.
