Sanford's newest restaurant will debut on Wednesday, August 4, when the Welcome Home Diner opens its doors at 6 Lebanon St., in the building once occupied by Jerry's Diner (and Cindy's Too). Stenton Trust Highlight of Growth Council Update

Jim Nimon, Executive Director of the Sanford Regional Economic Growth Council, presented his quarterly report to the City Council at its meeting on July 20. The biggest news was that there has been progress with the development of the long-vacant Stenton Trust building on River St. WinnDevelopment, a Massachusetts-based company, has submitted a preapplication to Maine Housing, which is a first step in converting the former industrial building to residential use. On Tuesday, July 13, The City Council’s Solid Waste Subcommittee discussed the possibility of requiring takeout and drive through restaurants to have outdoor trash receptacles for their customers’ use. Councilor Luke Lanigan had requested to have this item put on the agenda. Councilor Lanigan pointed out that many restaurants have reduced or eliminated the number of outdoor trash receptacles, causing those businesses who still have them to be burdened with an overflow of trash.
