Looking for more outdoor dining options? Richie’s Jerk & BBQ on Washington St. will soon be adding picnic tables with umbrellas on the grassy lot next door. Flower pots will add some color and a little screening from the sidewalk. Their long-term plans include a gazebo or tent to shelter a table or two in wet weather.
Back Street Grill is also hoping to increase their outdoor dining space. However, their plan to permanently take over 9 spaces of the School St. parking lot for that purpose was shot down at the Municipal Operations and Property Subcommittee meeting on June 8. The Subcommittee members – Mayor Anne-Marie Mastraccio, Deputy Mayor Maura Herlihy and City Councilor Jonathan Martell – all said they would be comfortable approving the plan for one year only, but felt the City couldn’t afford to permanently lose that many spaces in the busy lot. They expressed willingness to look at a new permanent plan that would require taking fewer spaces. As the parking lot is City property, Back Street would have to purchase or rent the space if a permanent plan is approved.
A new barber shop is coming to town, at 859 Main St., where A Style For You was previously located. Michael Magri, a fourth-generation barber, has recently moved back to the area from Arizona, where he ran a business for 20 years. He detailed his plans for the new shop at the Design Review Committee meeting on June 9. Mr. Magri is currently working on sprucing up both the interior and exterior of the building with the goal of opening his 4 Gen Barbershop on July 1.
