St. Polycarp of Smyrna Orthodox Mission recently celebrated the first anniversary of the establishment of the parish, which is now approaching 40 members. Read about the celebrations on the Eastern American Diocese’s website. The church is located at 13 Hewey St. in Sanford.

In-person absentee voting is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the third floor of City Hall, now through October 29. Sanford High School will be hosting the Maine Band Directors Association Marching Band finals on Saturday, October 30. The SHS Music Boosters are seeking volunteers, as well as donations of drinks, snacks and cash to put on a great event. If you can help, fill out this form.

Sanford Elks is selling Little Caesars Pizza, Breadstick, and Cookie kits through November 3, to raise money to support Caring Unlimited’s local programs. These programs offer direct support and safety planning services for anyone experiencing domestic abuse and violence. Order online here and your kits will be shipped directly to your home within seven days in insulated packaging. Every kit sold earns $6 for the fundraiser and makes an impact right here in Sanford. Sanford Parks and Recreation is looking for walkers that don’t want to quit walking despite the short days and cold weather, as Daylight Saving Time ends November 7.  A new indoor Walk-n-Talk program will start Monday, October 18, at the Memorial Gym.  Walkers of all ages may participate, however, 15 and younger must participate with an adult walker. Walking will take place Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m. through the month of March. Walk the entire time or show up for just a 20 minute jaunt.

York County Community Action is selling two 16-passenger 2010 Ford Starcraft buses with 2 wheelchair positions from its fleet. All vehicles are sold as is, where is, with no warranties by sealed bid. Bids must be marked as “Sealed Bid” on the front of the envelope and sent to YCCAC, P.O. Box 72, Sanford, ME 04073, Attn. Dot Morin. All bids must be received by noon on Monday 10/18/2021. Sanford schools will be holding influenza vaccination clinics for students during the week of October 18.  They will be partnering with Northern Light Home Care & Hospice to provide these clinics. Parent or guardian consent forms are available here.

York County Shelter Programs is looking for donations of items for their shelter residents. They need twin sheet sets with pillowcases; pillows; twin blankets (all bedding must be new and not used); deodorant for men and women; shaving cream and razors.
