News Notes: September 19

Sanford kids love bikes! On a warm fall or spring day, the bike rack at the Sanford Middle School is full of bikes, and the Middle School Bike Club has grown with enthusiastic members riding the Mousam Way and Rail Trail once a week after school. Now you have the opportunity to add to the experience. Having hosted a Bike Club for several years, the Middle School has reserved a room just for bikes. They would like to equip the Bike Room with tools, equipment and supplies so Bike Club members can maintain the fleet of bikes that Nasson Bikes has furnished for them. Outride, a 501c3 non-profit that works to make cycling more accessible for youth across the United States, wants to help. They have a fundraising goal of $1,250 to bring bike stands and benches, a crank arm puller, a cone wrench set, a vernier caliper, a vise, and more to the Bike Room. If the campaign is successful, the Outride Fund (@OutrideBike) will match your donations. Please contribute so Sanford kids can learn mechanical skills, riding skills and life skills. You can donate online at https://www.classy.org/fundraiser/3148316 or send a check to Outride, 15130 Concord Circle, Morgan Hill, CA 95037. Please put Nasson Bikes/Middle School Bike Room on the check memo line.

Join the Paver Campaign! Now that games are being played again at Alumni Stadium, the Sanford Alumni Association is reopening the paver campaign. It’s a great way to recognize your class or your family, or donate in memory of a loved one. Bricks will be installed in the patio at the Stadium. An 8″ x 8″ brick is $250, and a 4″ x 8″ brick is $125. Purchase your brick here.

The Trafton Travelers still have space available on their Boston Harbor Cruise and Luncheon trip on October 7. The $115 cost includes bus transportation, a two-hour cruise taking in the Boston skyline, and delicious buffet luncheon. A DJ will provide music for dancing and listening enjoyment. RSVP to Robin Bibber at the Trafton Center, 457-0080. Trafton Travelers will also be headed to the White Mountain Hotel and Resort on December 8-10. Highlights of those three days will include shows, fine dining, beautiful accommodations, a sleigh ride, a trip to the Rocks Estate and shopping opportunities for those that wish. Space is limited so make your reservation today!

Due to the current increase in the spread of Covid-19, the Sanford-Springvale YMCA is requiring all individuals to wear face masks throughout the facility. You may remove your mask only when you are swimming in the pool.

Mercy Chapel has resumed its regular schedule of in-person services. Masks will not be required, but will be available for those who choose to use them.
