The Sanford Police Department now has five nationally-certified car seat installers. Det. Everett Allen, Ofc. Nicole Root, Det. Colleen Adams, Ofc. Marshall Davis, and Ofc. Chris Brown (pictured above) recently completed the training for this certification. Call the Department at 324-9170 to schedule an appointment to have your car seat installed.

Thinking about getting a joint replacement? On Friday, July 16 at 11:30 a.m., Goodall Library and York Hospital will present a live, in-person Lunch & Learn event you won’t want to miss. Dr. Michael Morwood, an orthopaedic surgeon at Atlantic Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, will speak about advances in robotic surgery for hip and knee replacements. For $100, a one-time tax-deductible donation, you can honor and/or remember someone special with an engraved nameplate on the armrest of a seat at the Sanford Performing Arts Center. From July 5-10, “Patriot Subaru’s 12 Weeks of Giving” puts the spotlight on the Sanford-Springvale YMCA. During the week, Patriot will donate $25 for every vehicle sold to the Y, and $50 if you live in Sanford-Springvale.

The YMCA and Trafton Center will be open regular hours on Monday, July 5.

Starting July 6, yoga instructor Betsy Baker will do 8 weeks of breathing techniques on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. live on the YMCA’s Facebook page. All 15-minute videos will be available for future viewing.

York County Community Action is selling two 13 Passenger Ford Econoline Vans from its fleet. One is a 2008 model and one is a 2009. Both vehicles are located in Sanford Me. All vehicles are sold as is, where is, with no warranties by sealed bid. Bids must be marked as “Sealed Bid” on the front of the envelope and sent to” YCCAC, P.O. Box 72 Sanford, Me. 04073, Attn. Dot Morin. All bids must be received by 12:00 noon on Friday July 16, 2021. YCCAC reserves the right to refuse any and all bids. Final sales are contingent on approval by Maine DOT. The Center for Grieving Children is a finalist for the Red Sox Foundation IMPACT Awards. Whichever organization gets the most votes, wins a $10,000 grant. This year’s IMPACT Awards focus on organizations that have demonstrated an impact on raising awareness and improving mental health outcomes in young adults in their communities. Voting ends July 9th.

Want to try acting this summer? Sanford Maine Stage is looking to fill a few open roles for its production of Romeo and Juliet. More info here. There are still a few days left for kids aged 9-11 to sign up for Sanford Little League’s Twilight Summer League. The Springvale First Baptist Church will be holding their annual yard sale on Friday, July 9 and Saturday, July 10 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There will be lots of treasures to find, lovely people to converse with, and a bake table where you can grab a beverage and some delicious goodies.

The Maine Community Fund’s Frances Hollis Brain Foundation has awarded $5,000 to Caring Unlimited of Sanford, to provide free civil legal services and court advocacy to victims of domestic violence in York County.
