Sports Notes: Mainers, Tennis, Lacrosse and More

What did the Sanford Mainers do when their game was postponed Tuesday night due to rain? They went bowling at Bowl-a-Rama! Several of the players had never heard of candlepin bowling before, but they all had a great time. The game will be made up July 13 in a doubleheader at Goodall Park.

The Gotta Be Frank food truck will be at the Mainers’ game on Friday, July 2, which has a special start time of 4:00. Military Appreciation Night is Tuesday, July 6 and it’s Nasson Health Care night at the game on Friday, July 9.

Sanford Recreation’s SNAG program (Starting New At Golf) for 6 to 8 year olds has a summer session starting next week. They have the equipment and no experience is needed. More information and registration link here.

The summer session of Tennis in the Parks will be starting up Thursday, July 8. Led by an approved USTA NetGeneration tennis coach, the program will focus on developing the skills to serve, rally and play – so it’s perfect for beginners. Once the skills are there, participants will play fun matches with other players in the program. This program uses modified tennis balls, age-appropriate rackets, court sizes, and the latest fun and engaging activities that help players successfully learn and play the game quicker! All players in their first session receive and keep a new age-appropriate racket, ball, and Net Generation tee shirt! Open to kids in grades 1-8. More information and registration link here.

Sanford High School varsity lacrosse coach Nate Mclellen is running FREE coed skills and drills clinics on Wednesday evenings. The clinics are held at Alumni Stadium at SHS. 8th grade and under is from 5-6:30pm, and grades 9-12 is 6:30-8pm. The remaining dates are June 30, July 7 and July 21.

The Sanford-Springvale Chamber of Commerce 20th Annual Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, August 13 at Sanford Country Club. Get all the info here or or call Rick at 324-4280. Individuals and teams of four can sign up.

Sanford Christian Academy is hosting its first fundraising golf tournament at Sanford Country Club on August 19. Sponsor a hole or sign up to play. All the info is in the brochure here.
