Fire Department Log: May 23-29

On Monday, May 24, Sanford firefighters responded to a report of a resident burning on a “high fire danger” day. It turned out a permit had been issued in error, and the resident extinguished the fire.

Tuesday, May 25, Engine 4 was called to a mulch fire at the Center for Shopping in South Sanford.

Wednesday, May 26, was a busy one for Sanford firefighters. A late afternoon woods fire on Country Club Rd. required a two-engine response. That evening, a woods fire on Beaver Hill Rd. required three engines. Mutual aid from Acton, Alfred and North Berwick also responded. Shortly after that was brought under control, the Department was called to River St. to deal with arcing power lines.

Thursday, May 27, got even busier. There were two mulch fires, at Walmart and the Center for Shopping, as well as a brush fire on Normand Ave. Fortunately, there were no injuries in a car fire on Main St. near Sam Allen Rd., but the vehicle was a total loss. The Department also responded to a vehicle oil leak on Twombley Rd.

There were 62 calls for EMS service during the week, plus two motor vehicle accidents with injuries. Assistance was also provided to six individuals who needed help getting up. The Department also responded to 7 motor vehicle accidents without injuries.

In other calls this week, there was a gas leak, an oil spill, and a flooding incident. Firefighters responded to 5 alarm calls, of which 3 were unintentional, one was the result of a malfunction, and one described as malicious. Two calls were cancelled en route and two more were unfounded.
