Each month the Crossroads United Methodist Church on Route 202 hosts a food distribution for seniors age 60+. No need to sign up and you don’t even have to get out of the car. It is always held on the first Thursday after the first Friday of the month. The next one is this Thursday, May 13, from 10:00 to 11:30.
This week a new committee will meet to develop a profile that will aid in choosing Sanford’s next Police Chief (Chief Connolly is retiring in July.) The committee will be comprised of about 20 Sanford residents, and will include three City Councilors, the City Manager, the Fire Chief, several Police Officers, teachers, students and other community members. The profile will define administrative, technological, organizational, transformative and community policing qualifications the ideal candidate for Police Chief will possess. The profile will be used to develop the oral board process to interview prospective candidates. The City has received 14 applications for the position.
Partners Bank has donated $5,000 to Three Rivers Land Trust’s fundraising effort to acquire land in Springvale for the proposed Sanford Community Forest. 3RLT has until the end of the year to raise the remaining $135,000 needed.
Eastside Youth is raffling off four tickets to see the Red Sox play the Texas Rangers at Fenway Park August 22. Each chance is $10. The winner will be drawn at their Annual Bike Run on August 7. Call 233-8394, or email eastsideyouthmaine@gmail.com to purchase raffle tickets.
The Sanford Peer Support Center at 19 Washington St. serves anyone in the community with a self-identified mental health and/or substance use challenge (a “Peer”) who is seeking recovery and wellness, and is committed to fostering an environment that is welcoming, inclusive, and respectful. There is no required fee to take advantage of offered services. Individuals without a self-identified mental health and/or substance use challenge are not eligible to participate in the program. Each center includes a common area with tables and chairs to accommodate meals and socializing as well as areas for art, recovery groups, and wellness trainings.
