The homestead exemption provides a reduction of up to $25,000 in the value of your home for property tax purposes. Once you fill out a homestead tax exemption, it will roll over automatically every year – there’s no need to file a new application unless you move to a new residence. The deadline to apply is April 1. Print out your application here: https://www.maine.gov/revenue/sites/maine.gov.revenue/files/inline-files/homesteadapp.pdf.
