Basketball takes no vacation! On Wednesday, February 17, the Boys First Team will play Biddeford at 10:00 a.m., Boys JV will play Noble at 11:30 and Boys Varsity will play Noble at 1:00 p.m. These are all home games which will be streamed on WSSR-TV’s YouTube channel. The Girls Varsity team will travel to Noble for a game at 11:30 a.m., and Girls JV will play at Biddeford at 4:30.

Sanford Soccer needs your help! After having to make the hard decision to cancel last year’s season due to the pandemic, they are in high hopes of being able to have a Spring and Fall season in 2021. They need board members, coaches, and other volunteers to make it happen. The soccer facilities here are some of the best in the state, and they host the largest travel team tournament in Maine. Sanford Soccer offers programs for kids ages 4 to 13. With your help, this 30+ year old organization will continue to do so for many more years. Two former Sanford Mainers players have been hired as assistant coaches in the Boston Red Sox minor league system. Mike Montville (2011) will be the assistant coach for the newly established “WooSox”, the Triple A International League affiliate of the Red Sox, in their first season since relocating from Pawtucket. Ako Thomas (2016) will serve as assistant coach for the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double A Eastern League affiliate of the Red Sox, as an assistant coach.

Governor Janet Mills has signed an Executive Order to create a “Free Fishing License Week” from Saturday, February 13 – Sunday February 21. In order to participate in “Free Fishing License Week”, people need to register online at mefishwildlife.com/icefishing. Any person who registers may fish for free without a license on Maine’s lakes and ponds from February 13-February 21, 2021, except those who have had their license suspended or revoked. All other rules and regulations, including bag and possession limits, apply.
