The Maine Principals’ Association has decided that schools in counties designated yellow may now begin holding sports practices and games, and other activities. York County has been designated yellow for over a month. Schools have been closed for two weeks due to Covid outbreaks, but are expected to reopen Monday, January 25. Sanford’s Athletic Director Gordie Salls said “I’m very happy for the student athletes to have the opportunity to return to sports. Its been a stressful time for everyone and getting back to sports for these kids will bring back some normalcy for them.”

In other sports-related news, the Sanford Mainers have set up an Amazon wish list of needed equipment and supplies. The list can be viewed here: https://amzn.to/3bZkZzN. If you would like to donate, they encourage purchasing items from local businesses if you are able. Any donations are gratefully accepted.

The Goodall Library is open again for browsing. Hours are 10:00 – 4:00 on Monday, Tuesday and Friday; and 10:00 -7:00 on Wednesday and Thursday. They still offer curbside service as well.

At its January 20 meeting, the Planning Board approved a new private way, which will enable access from Ridley Road to property owned by Shaw’s Ridge Farm. It is planned to subdivide a piece of that property to construct a home. Another home or two could be added in future years. The name Rocky Ridge Road was proposed, but Code Enforcement Officer Jamie Cole said that name could not be used, as it was too similar to another road in the city.
