Some SMS, Willard Classes Go Remote Due to Covid

Superintendent of Schools Matt Nelson announced Friday and Saturday that some classes at Sanford Middle School and Willard School will go on remote learning this week after exposure to individuals who have tested positive for Covid-19.

A Covid-positive individual at SMS was in school on Monday, January 4. Due to quarantine requirements, Learning Community #3 (LC 3) will be going full remote for a short time, effective immediately.

  • LC 3 Group B will return to in-person learning on Friday, January 15th.
  • LC 3 Group A will return to in-person learning on Thursday, January 21st, due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

At this time, all other SMS students will follow their normal in-person learning schedule on Monday, January 11.

An individual associated with Willard School tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, January 9. This individual was in school this past Tuesday, January 5. Out of an abundance of caution, the following first grade classrooms at Willard School are fully remote effective immediately:

  • All Grade 1 Group A students (Mrs. Flannery, Mrs. Mercier, Mrs. Payeur) are scheduled to return to in-person learning on Thursday, January 21 (due to Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday)
  • Grade 1 Group B students in Mrs. Flannery’s and Mrs. Mercier’s classrooms are scheduled to return to in-person learning on Tuesday, January 19. (Grade 1 Group B students in Mrs. Payeur’s classroom will continue regular in-person learning on Tuesday, January 12)

At this time, all other Willard students will follow their normal in-person learning schedule on Monday, January 11.

In both cases, all known close contacts have been notified and must quarantine for 10 days from their last exposure to the positive individual. A negative test result does not get an individual out of quarantine.

School officials are monitoring the situation closely. These plans are subject to change due to additional information or circumstances.
