Howard Acker, a native of Alfred, passed away on Oct. 13, 2024, in Charlottesville, VA. He was born on Sept. 23, 1930, to Henry Palmer Acker and Mary Greim Acker. He grew up in the Sanford/Springvale area, graduating from Sanford High School in 1949. Howard was an apprentice at Saco Lowell shops in Lowell, MA, where he learned to be a draftsman. He married the love of his life, Marcia Elaine King, in June 1952. They were married for 67 years before Marcia passed away in 2019. Howard and Marcia moved to Raymond, ME in 1959 to work at Dielectric. They raised their four children, Michael, Mark, Ricky and Pamela, there. As an active Raymond selectman, he was instrumental in starting the Raymond Recreational Program that provided summer swimming lessons and winter skiing. He loved spending time with his wife Marcia and family and provided them with many experiences whether it be skiing in northern Maine or camping or fishing. He retired from Dielectric in 1988 as the company’s CEO. During his retirement, he was passionate about his antique cars and often took part in the annual Awesome Auto Tour sponsored by WGME. He and Marcia spent time at their summer home on Mousam Lake and later would split their time between Port Richey, FL, and Acton, becoming true snowbirds. He was an active member of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Sanford and could always be found helping anyone who needed help. He was a member at the Springvale Masonic Lodge #190 for 73 years. Howard is survived by his four children: Michael (Barbara) Acker, Mark (Tammy) Acker, Rick Acker and husband Alvin Johnson and Pamela Acker and husband Jeffrey, five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A Masonic Memorial Service will start at 10:30 am on Saturday, Nov. 23 at St. George’s Episcopal Church, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11 am. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
Simone T. Caron, 100, of Newport, PA, formerly of Springvale, passed away on Oct. 25, 2024. She was born in Sanford on Sept. 4, 1924, to Emile Morin and Adiana (Cloutier) Morin. Her family moved to Canada when she was very young, and she returned to Sanford to find work when she was 18. She met and married Gerard Caron on Oct. 5, 1946. Simone had various jobs, but most of her time was spent as a full-time homemaker. Gerard and Simone spent close to 30 yeaēs in Massachusetts and returned to Maine after retirement in 1987. Simone was predeceased by Gerard 13 years ago after 64 years of marriage. She moved to Pennsylvania in 2013 when she was no longer able to live on her own. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Therese Porell, Conrad Morin, Rejeanne Hinse, Roger Morin, and Gilles Morin. She has one living sister, Giselle Morin, who still lives in Canada. Other survivors include her daughter, Diane (Chris) Wend, of Newport, PA, son Steven Caron of Houston, TX, three grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, Nov. 15, at St. Thérèse Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford with burial following at St Ignatius Cemetery.
David H. Foshey, 86, of Sanford, passed away at his home on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024. He was born on Feb. 16, 1938, one of 11 children to George and Marion Foshey. He grew up in a lively, close-knit family and carried those values with him throughout his life. David purchased a camp in 1968 on Estes Lake, a place that would become a beloved family retreat known as “Camp David.” Over the years, as neighboring lots became available, family members eagerly joined him on the lake, establishing a legacy of lakeside gatherings. Camp David grew to be a cherished destination where laughter, storytelling, and memory-making filled the days—a lasting gift to the Foshey family. David was also a Master Mason, holding a proud 60-year membership with the Lafayette Lodge A.F. & A.M. His dedication to this brotherhood reflected his commitment to tradition, community, and lifelong learning. He was an avid collector, reader and seller, treasuring each book for its story and wisdom. David was predeceased by his parents and by siblings Helen, Marion, George, Charles, Fred, Arthur, and Lois. He is survived by his sister, Charlotte MacLeod of Sanford; his brother, Robert Foshey of Holbrook, MA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. A celebration of David’s life will be held at a later date.
