The Sanford Backpack Program’s Lip Sync Showdown fundraising event took place at the Sanford Performing Arts on October 19. This friendly competition featured Sanford’s community members from the city council, schools, and sports teams performing for an audience of 260 people for a vital cause. The event raised funds to provide enough food to fill 600 backpacks for area students. The Director’s Award went to the Sanford Police Department for their “Thriller” performance. The Maine Attraction Water Ski Team received the overall Judges’ Award for the night. The supportive crowd cheered and yelled platitudes for the animated performers during this first showcase of community support and talent for the backpack program which may become an annual tradition.
The names of some winners of the Oct. 19 Lip Sync Showdown were inadvertently left out of our story last week. Winning groups were: The Sanford High School field hockey team, Margaret Chase Smith School PTA, the Sanford Fire Department, Sanford/Springvale Rotary, the Sanford School Committee, and the SHS faculty, which tied with the Theater Club. Northern Explosion won the Judges’ Award and the Sanford Police Department won the Director’s Award. The event raised money for the Sanford Backpack Program.
