News Notes: December 11

Waban raised more than $70,000 in its 49th annual telethon, with the finale hosted on Facebook Live throughout the month of October. Garnsey Brothers Insurance was recognized with the Making a Difference Award (see photo above). Read the full story here on Seacoast Online.

JMS Services has moved its redemption center to the former Marc Motors building at 1357 Main St. The scrap metal operation is still at the old location.

The Sanford ATV Club has closed the trails for the season, to let the ground freeze solid before snowmobile season begins.

The Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery will hold all sponsored veteran wreaths until next year, and place them at the Wreaths Across America event in 2021. Please help them reach their goal of fully covering the cemetery next year by sponsoring a wreath today for placement in 2021. The link to sponsor a wreath is here.

The Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual raffle with a top prize of $2,000, second prize of $400 and third prize of $100. Tickets are $50 each and only 100 are available. Call Rick Stanley at 324-4280 or email ricks@metrocast.net to purchase a ticket.

Safe@Home by Safe Sitter® is a program designed for students in grades 4-6 to prepare them to be safe when they are home alone. The program is designed to prepare students to care for themselves when parents are away for short periods of time. Safe@Home is a 90-minute program that teaches students how to practice safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies. Students are also introduced to the Safe Sitter® First Aid Chart and learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses. This class will be held virtually, free to the community, via Zoom, December 14 from 4:00-5:30 p.m., manual $12.50, grades 4-6. Register in person at the Sanford-Springvale YMCA.
