Eight Sanford Mainers earned All-NECBL honors this season.

Several Sanford Mainers selected to All-NECBL teams

Eight Sanford Mainers received All-NECBL honors for the 2024 season. Connor Ball, Colin Barczi, and C.J. Willis earned All-NECBL First Team honors, while Bijan Anvar, Devan Bade, and Tommy Ellison made the second team. Caleb Shpur and Jared Davis were named Honorable Mentions.

Ball was also recently named the Robin Roberts Top Starting Pitcher. He had a 1.89 ERA over eight regular-season appearances, helping the Mainers to a 26-18 record – Sanford’s most wins since 2016.

Sanford High School trophy case to be named after Bruce MacKinnon

The Sanford Schools Legacy Foundation is hosting an Athletic Achievement Showcase to name the trophy case outside Partners Bank Gymnasium after longtime basketball coach Bruce MacKinnon. The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 4 p.m. outside Partners Bank Gymnasium at Sanford High School.

Mackinnon coached the Sanford High School boys’ basketball team from 1973 to 1985, winning 125 games. He was inducted into the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame in the fall of 2023.

Sanford student hosting 4th Annual 5K in September

Grayson Perro, a Sanford High School freshman, is hosting his 4th Annual Heart, Peace, and Love for Kids 5K Walk on Sunday, Sept. 15, to raise money for children with serious illnesses.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., starting at the Gowen Park Pavilion. Perro has added a craft fair to the event. Those interested in participating in the craft fair can contact jessiej19@yahoo.com for an application.
