Nancy L. Junkins, 75, of Sanford, died peacefully at her home on Aug. 16, 2024. Nancy was born in Biddeford on April 26, 1949, the daughter of Walter and Maxine Lozowski. She was raised in Alfred and after graduating from high school, she married her high school sweetheart, Edward MacLellan. Together they welcomed Amy into their family. Nancy would lose Edward to cancer in 1979. She then married Garry Junkins in 1982, and they shared 42 years of marriage. Nancy and Garry had many good times together and were able to travel for a few years to visit friends and especially Bike Week in Daytona, Florida. Nancy worked at Sprague Electric for 25 years and at Associated Eye Care in Sanford for six years before leaving due to illness. She was a beloved member of her community known for her perseverance, generosity, and unwavering spirit. Nancy was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward W. MacLellan, a brother, Robert Lozowski, and a sister, Helen “Joey” Lozowski. Nancy is survived by her husband, Garry Junkins of Sanford, daughter Amy (Michael) Moore of Alfred, and son Stephen (Courtney) Junkins of Selkirk, NY., a sister, Dorothy Anne Lozowski of Alfred, a brother, James (Hallie) Lozowski of Georgia, and two granddaughters. Nancy is also survived by her lifelong best friend, Carolann Rines of Wiscasset. Visiting hours were held at Black Funeral Home, on August 22.

Deryl F. Kitchen, age 77, was born in Lynn, MA, on Aug. 3, 1947, and passed away peacefully on his birthday, Aug. 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Deryl grew up largely in Georgetown, MA, before moving with his family to Sanford. Following high school, he entered the Merchant Marines, finding himself sailing the seas the world over. Not long after, Deryl married Dellie Bailey. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, companion, and friend. Deryl was known for his strong work ethic, kindness, sense of humor, and dedication to his family. He spent most of his career as an industrial pipe coverer, specializing in pipe insulation for power generation facilities. He was also a proud and active member of Insulators Local 6, leaving behind many colleagues who became lifelong friends, and who he considered extended family. Outside of work, Deryl enjoyed sailing, ship model building, a hearty game of cribbage, and being around his friends and family. Deryl was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Delcina “Dellie,” his father Laurence, and mother Cleta (Smith). He is survived by sons Jeff (Michelle) Kitchen of Sanford and Kevin of Wells; brother Craig (Judy) Kitchen; sisters Kyle (Osborne), Janet (Bridges), Lily (McCormick), and Karen (Lehoux); grandchildren Connor and Colin; and his late in life companion, Pam. Laurence (Larry) Alan Lowry, aged 83, died at his home in Springvale on Aug. 5, 2024. Larry was born in Melrose, MA, on Aug. 7, 1940, to Laurence (Bud) and Lucille (McGinn) Lowry. His family moved to Hamilton, MA, where Larry participated in many clubs at Hamilton High School, graduating in 1958. He graduated from Salem State College in 1962 with a BA in English and was recruited to work in the insurance industry. He married Catherine (Forry) Lowry in 1965. He served in the 187th Separate Infantry Brigade in the Army Reserve at Camp Drum during the Vietnam War. Larry and Cathy traveled to Bethel, NY, for The Woodstock Music and Art Fair and coincidentally, the last CD found in his player was Jimi Hendrix’s “Are You Experienced?” In the 1970s, Larry shifted careers to become a tutor and counselor at the Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) in Lynn, MA, assisting clients to attain their GEDs. He married his second wife Jorine (Van Stigt Ruiz) Lowry in August 2002, and they resided in Sanford and Springvale. Among his many interests, Larry was an enthusiastic grandparent, a lover of music, an inveterate reader, a passionate Boston sports fan, and an avid birdwatcher. Larry is predeceased by his second wife, Jorine, and one brother, Ross Lowry of Bangor. He is survived by his two sons, Evan (Lindsay) Lowry of Phoenix, AZ, Derek Lowry and his wife Jennifer (Jen Darsney) Lowry of Ipswich, MA, stepchildren Nicholas (Nick) Ruiz and Simone Ruiz, seven grandchildren and a large extended family. A remembrance will be held at the St. Lawrence Literary Club, 14 Fairview Ave., Ipswich, MA, on Aug. 31 from 4 – 8 pm.

Keith Warren Clough, 80, of Waterboro, died peacefully on Monday, Aug. 19, at his home. He was born in Sanford on Sept. 22, 1943, the son of Stanley and Ruth (Davis) Clough. He grew up in Sanford, the youngest of five children. He graduated in the Sanford High School Class of 1963 and began working for American Cyanamid (Cyro) shortly after and remained there for 43 years, retiring in 2005. Keith married Sheila O’Neil on July 27, 1968, and together they raised their children, Kevin, Cheryl and Joseph. Keith was a volunteer firefighter in Springvale and later in Waterboro, beginning in 1963. He was part of the Fire Brigade at Cyro from 1963 to 2005, serving as captain for part of his career. He was also an instructor at training exercises for first responders. Keith loved golf and introduced his son Joseph to the game, which quickly became a shared pastime for them – a way to spend time together and talk about life, or to say little and simply enjoy each other’s company. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed playing softball, bowling and ice fishing. When his children were old enough, the family enjoyed camping, hiking, swimming, canoeing, biking and skiing. More than anything else, Keith lived for his children and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his siblings, Virginia Clough Hetzel, Shirley Clough Brunelle, Everett Clough and Donald Clough. He is survived by his wife, Sheila; his children, Kevin (Amy) Clough, Cheryl Anne Finn and her husband Gregory of Hollis and Joseph Stanley (Joanna Grubman) Clough, and his six grandchildren. A memorial service was held at the Carll-Heald and Black Funeral Home, on Aug. 23, with interment to follow at the Riverside Cemetery.

Margaret M. Peters, 75, lifelong resident of Sanford, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024. She was born at home on July 5, 1949, one of 14 children to Louis and Rachel (Payeur) Fournier. She attended local schools and was employed at local shoe shops. When Margaret was just 21, she was involved in a tragic car accident that left her disabled. This did not stop her from having a life full of family, love, and friendships. Margaret’s life was a testament to resilience and the power of love, leaving behind joy, laughter, and enduring memories. She is predeceased by her parents and six brothers, Gerard, Paul, Clement, Joseph, Rene and Roger. Survivors include her beloved husband of 18 years, Henry Peters Jr., of Sanford, a son, Scott Johnson of Worcester, MA, a daughter, Judy Gagnon of Lebanon, three sisters, Rose Marie Rose of Sanford, Claire Smith of Wells and Elaine Fournier of Saco, one brother Armond Fournier of Bangor and three stepdaughters, Kaliegh Peters of Lynn, MA, Heather Furbish of Sanford and Bethany Verrill of Limerick. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 1 to 5 pm at the Amvets, Post 3, 169 School St., Sanford.
