Breezeline teams up with Sanford Mainers to support local non-profit: Partnering with the Sanford Mainers, Breezeline donated $5,000 to Great Bay Services. The amount donated was based on the Sanford Mainers’ strikeout statistics during the 2024 season. “Great Bay Services is a beacon of hope for many in Southern Maine,” said Andrea Pais of the Mainers. “We are proud to partner with Breezeline to support the work Great Bay does for families in Sanford.” Great Bay Services is a non-profit that supports and empowers adults with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, and autism.
Goodall Library offers free document shredding: Thanks to a generous donation of services from Secure RMS, Goodall Library is offering free shredding for sensitive documents. Simply drop the documents in the locked box by the library’s front door and Secure RMS, which specializes in shredding confidential documents, will take care of the rest. A social enterprise of Waypoint Maine, Secure RMS hires people with disabilities to sort the paper.
Sanford man pleads not guilty to charges related to Jan. 6 Capitol breach: Christopher Belliveau, 38, who was arrested in June on felony and misdemeanor charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol, pleaded not guilty to all eight charges. Belliveau’s five felony charges included civil disorder; assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers using a dangerous weapon; entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority with a deadly or dangerous weapon; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon; and engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or on restricted grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon. In addition, he was charged with three misdemeanor offenses, including disorderly conduct in a capitol building; act of physical violence in the Capitol grounds or buildings; and parading, demonstrating or picketing in the Capitol buildings. Belliveau was arraigned on Aug. 6 and was released on personal recognizance bond. His next court date is scheduled for October.

ITAV supplies run low for feeding the unhoused: Each week, It Takes a Village 207 (ITAV) serves between 35 and 55 unhoused people in the community. As a result, the organization is running low on supplies — not only food items, but also biodegradable containers, plates, utensils and other items. To help replenish their stock, go to their Facebook post for a list of needed items, an Amazon Wish List link to order directly, and Venmo instructions for those interested in making financial donations.

Fresh fall flower fundraiser: A Fall Mum Sale is running through Sept. 12 to benefit Sanford High School’s Project Grad – Class of 2025. Priced at $12 each for a 9-inch pot, the mums will be delivered to the Sanford-Springvale YMCA and be available for pick-up on Sept. 14 from 9 am to noon in the lower parking lot on the left side of the building. Thank you for your service: The city celebrated Assistant Chief Robert Arnold earlier in August as he embarked on his retirement from the Sanford Fire Department. Annual run to support the gym: The 22nd Annual Randall’s Run/Walk for the Gym 5K Race, supporting the Nasson Community Center & Little Theatre gym at 457 Main St. in Springvale, will be held Aug. 31 at 8:30 am. No double dipping at the YMCA, or single dipping either: The pool and pool area locker rooms at the Sanford-Springvale YMCA will be closed starting Aug. 22 and will not reopen until Sept. 3. This time will be used to perform the area’s annual thorough cleaning as well as make some needed repairs and complete a couple of projects.
