Betty was known for her stories and her love of the ocean. Her greatest loves were her grandchildren, her dog, Max, her cat, Mari, and her home in Owls Head. Betty is predeceased by her parents Virginia (Bird) Torney & Elmer Bird; stepfather, Geoff Torney; and nephew, Amos Makinen. Betty is survived by her ex-husband, Robert Mann, daughter, Katy Mann, grandchildren, Mariah and Nathaniel Mann, sister, Sidney Richardson and niece, Marcella Makinen. A Celebration of Life will be held later this summer. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins in Rockland.

Waydette Poitras

Waydette Marie (Monteith) Poitras, 75, a former Sanford resident died on March 14, 2024. A loving mother, devoted wife, and ridiculously generous grandmother left this earth suddenly and with a bit of drama. She was born in Caribou on October 18, 1948, to William and Elizabeth Monteith. She met her husband, Robert W. Poitras (Bob) in Bangor, while she was attending Husson College and he was at the University of Maine. They got to spend almost 56 wonderful years together raising two children, Andrew and Kristen, in Sanford. She raised her children so that they knew their worth, knew how to treat and love others, all because she modeled that behavior every day of her life. Waydette and Bob in their later years settled in Savannah, Georgia for part of the year and Acton for the rest. She left behind her husband Bob, her son, Andrew Poitras (Libby) of Massachusetts, her daughter, Kristin Poitras (Richard Kendall) of Georgia, five grandchildren and a large extended family.
