A long-awaited improvement project for Carpentier Park should soon get underway. The city has gone out to bid for a landscape architect to design and upgrade the park, on High Street in Sanford’s densely populated East Side, as part of a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant awarded three years ago.
The work includes replacing the old playground and adding a splash pad, landscaping and paving. A splash pad is an area fitted with a safe, non-slip surface and various nozzles that can shower, spray, and shoot streams of water to create a fun place to play and cool off. It is designed to be low maintenance and doesn’t require a lifeguard. A new paved, accessible walkway and three parking spots are included. Improved landscaping will include grading, seeding of lawn and planting of six trees.
This project will be compliant with Build America Buy America.
Bids close on March 27. Then the final project will need to be approved by the City Council before work can begin.
