School Notes: November 15

While Sanford High School can’t have all their traditional Homecoming Week activities this year, students and staff will still show their school spirit. Each day has a different theme: Monday – Flannel Day; Tuesday – Dress Like a Tourist Day; Wednesday – PJ Day; Thursday – Throwback Day (dress in styles from the ’60s to the ’90s); Friday – Red, Black and White Day. Also on Friday, candidates for Homecoming Queen will participate in a live streamed candidate introduction at 4:00 p.m. in the SPAC. 

November 16-20 will be Sanford Middle School‘s Red Ribbon Week.  This is a week to identify and celebrate how students can stay “Above the Influence” and make healthy choices around substances. There will be classroom presentations around substance abuse, healthy habits and laws that keep us safe.  The kids will celebrate by wearing their red ribbons signifying they are staying above the influence of drugs and alcohol. They will receive a goody bag and do some fun wellness activities like participating in a raffle and by dressing up for R.R. spirit week.

Sanford Middle School‘s annual food drive kicked off on November 9. Learning Communities and Grade 5 are competing for the most items collected to help those in need. Thanksgiving items such as cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and gravy are especially welcome. All the food collected will go to local families for the holidays.

At Sanford High School, the Peer Helpers are running their annual Thanksgiving food drive. The food donated goes to the families in our community. This is a competition between classes, with the winning class (who brings in the most food) winning a movie in the Performing Arts Center. Each class is assigned a specific food to bring in: Freshman – instant mashed potatoes; Sophomores – gravy and cranberry sauce; Juniors – canned vegetables; Seniors – stuffing. The food drive ends November 19, so participation is encouraged in the coming week!

St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish in Sanford is pleased to announce that Jessica Rice has been named principal of St. Thomas School, effective immediately. Ms. Rice has served as interim principal at the school for five weeks and is the adult faith formation coordinator of St. Matthew Parish in Limerick, a position in which she will also continue.
